Introducing the CalPERS 457 Plan on-demand library

The dedicated Account Managers for the CalPERS 457 Plan offer live webinars on a variety of retirement planning and savings topics at 12 p.m. every second Wednesday and the first four Fridays of the month. If those dates and times are not convenient for your employees, though, you now have a new option to help them learn more about saving and planning for retirement.

The CalPERS 457 Plan webinar dashboard, available at calpers457.com, features links to register for one of the live webinars currently offered during the month at noon. You can also find slides for the webinar and handout materials that are relevant to the topic. Most importantly, though, each session has now been recorded as an on-demand video that you can link to and share with your employees, even if they are not enrolled in the CalPERS 457 Plan. The videos are available 24/7, allow the viewer to start and stop them at any time, and even return to the slide they left off at when viewing the video again in the future. In less than 30 minutes, these videos can help your employees improve their financial literacy and show them how the CalPERS 457 Plan integrates with concepts such as:

  • Bridging the retirement gap
  • The foundations of financial wellness
  • Staying the course when facing market volatility
  • Saving for retirement with Roth after-tax money
  • What you need to know as you near and enter retirement

We encourage you to share the CalPERS 457 Plan webinar dashboard with your employees. If there’s a topic or concept you’d like to see in a future video, contact your agency’s dedicated Account Manager at 888-713-8244. We’re always looking for new ways to bring you the information and education your employees need to achieve a secure financial future.

Help us promote the CalPERS 457 Plan to your employees

How do you normally communicate with employees? Do you send emails, host an intranet site, or have bulletin boards in break rooms or common areas? Every employer has their own approach to employee communication. The CalPERS 457 Plan would like to partner with you to spread the word about this important voluntary retirement savings vehicle for employees.

We can provide CalPERS 457 Plan materials in a variety of ways articles for newsletters, posters for high traffic areas, handouts for new hires, and even slides for TV monitors. If it’s something that an employee might see, we’d like to use it to help promote the Plan and saving for retirement. Information doesn’t have to be specific to the CalPERS 457 Plan either. We also provide general retirement planning and financial literacy education and information to help employees achieve holistic financial wellness.

To explore the ways that the CalPERS 457 Plan can provide your agency resources to educate employees, please contact your dedicated Account Manager at 888-713-8244.

Lower fees, more value

Fees are important when saving for retirement. The less you spend in fees when saving for retirement, the more your contributions remain invested and working for you and your retirement goals. To help your employees understand the “all-in” fee structure of the CalPERS 457 Plan, we have developed a fee comparison flyer for non-participating employees that provides examples of their retirement savings at work. When comparing the CalPERS 457 Plan with other plans at higher overall costs, your employees can see what makes the Plan a convenient way to save.

For your employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, the California Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) changed the way that their CalPERS retirement and health benefits are applied. To help those employees understand how the CalPERS 457 Plan can help close the PEPRA gap, we have developed a post-PEPRA member flyer that we encourage you to share. We look forward to the opportunity to help all of your employees understand their savings sources and the monthly income they’ll need in retirement.

Contact your dedicated Account Manager at 888-713-8244 to review and discuss how to leverage each of these pieces with your employees to help with their overall retirement planning strategy.

The participant newsletter for the CalPERS 457 Plan, Making Cents, is now online

Making Cents has been a quarterly CalPERS 457 Plan participant resource for years. The newsletter was previously included with quarterly statements to provide timely and relevant CalPERS 457 Plan information and education to participants. To expand that educational commitment to include employees who are not participating in the Plan, Making Cents is now online for anyone to access.

Visit calpers-sip.com/MC-current to view the latest Making Cents. New editions are posted online each quarter in February, May, August, and November. Each edition includes Plan announcements, looking ahead to help readers prepare for the future, spotlight articles that can help improve overall retirement readiness, learning more features that go deeper into retirement planning concepts, and planning for retirement information to help those in their final working years. As a public resource, you can also use this link wherever it may benefit your employees. Thank you for sharing this resource and for continuing to champion the CalPERS 457 Plan as a retirement savings benefit for your employees.
